The Next WebMonkey (2) (5/27/2008)

As I previously wrote, I had decided to wait for MediaMonkey 3. MediaMonkey 3 has now been out for a while and 2 changes of importance have occurred. The first is that MediaMonkey 3 now uses the SQLite database instead of MS Access. Secondly the database design has changed as well.
The change to SQLite is what is prohibiting my progress with the next WebMonkey. I still haven't found a way to connect to SQLite from ASP. Without the ability to connect there is no feasible way to continue development at the moment. Please feel free to PM me on the MediaMonkey forum if you have instructions on how to create this connection.
If I'm able to figure out how to connect to SQLite the question is how easy is this to achieve by other users. Users with their own webserver probably would be able to reproduce the same steps, but those that host their site on a 3rd party server might not be able to get a connection to SQLite. If this is the case the question that rises is if WebMonkey remains a useful project.
If all the connection issues can be sorted out the remaining issue is the change in the database design. I feel that this is big enough to start from scratch. Starting from scratch I want to do a complete different design where you would browse more like a regular webpage instead of a recreation of the MediaMonkey interface as currently the case.

WebMonkey, but I use MediaMonkey 3 (5/27/2008)

For those that switched to MediaMonkey 3, but also would like to continue using WebMonkey, there is the option to install MediaMonkey 2 and 3 side by side. You would use MediaMonkey 3 for playing and managing your music and MediaMonkey 2 for creating the database that WebMonkey uses.

The Next WebMonkey (1/12/2007)

I have decided to wait for MediaMonkey 3.0 to continue development of WebMonkey. This probably means that R13 will just be a rewrite for MediaMonkey 3.0 compatibility. I'm waiting as I expect that MediaMonkey 3.0 will have a different database design.

Hint about database design change

R12 Advances (9/27/2006)

I'm wrapping up coding on WebMonkey R12, now mainly bug testing remains. New features for this release will be an option to view album art at original size, alphabet listing (like title node) for other nodes as well and many minor tweaks.

R11 Released (9/21/2006)

This release mainly is a rework of the site to add better skinning support. All icons are now part of the skin and as such can be modified. Also frame sizes can be customized for skins and users can be allowed to select a skin at login.
An artist detail page has been added which can show the artist comments and the albums by that artist. The remaining changes are smaller tweaks.

R8 Advances 4 (3/2/2006)

It seems that all accent problems have been solved. This means that all bugs have been resolved so a release might come along soon pending some more bugtesting with especially the playlist feature.

R8 Advances 3 (2/28/2006)

Added several fields that can be displayed now. But I've run into a severe problem where sql queries don't work with accented letters, I've no clue yet what caused this so any tips or help are very welcome. You can leave comments on the MediaMonkey forum.

R8 Advances 2 (2/16/2006)

Added the option to show a default album art image if there is no album art available.

R8 Advances (2/15/2006)

Two small bugs have been fixed for R8 which include problems reported by limex with songs without an album. As well as the year statistic in the statistics.

A new feature will be the support of manually created playlists in MediaMonkey. Auto-playlists will most likely not be supported.
